September 2003
What a busy summer we’ve had at INNterim!!!
Verizon Mid-Atlantic Planning & Engineering presents $20,000 check
to help INNterim Families achieve self-sufficiency.
In June, Verizon Mid-Atlantic Planning held a ChariTee golf tournament at Renditions Golf
Course in Anne Arundel County. INNterim was designated as one of the recipients of the
days proceeds. We are grateful for the support we’ve received from Verizon in so many ways.
Charles “Chuck” Dunsey, Vice President of Verizon Mid-Atlantic Planning & Engineering
gives check to Executive Director Pat Lanning & INNterim Board President, Joe Willmott.
Looking on are Gene Williams, Director Network Engineering and Michelle Dutton, Executive
Director Network Engineering.
Nine children attended area camps and had a great time!
Six boys and girls went to Camp Vincent.
Two boys and a girl went to Keith Van Eron’s Pro Soccer Camp courtesy of scholarships
donated by Keith. One of our boys was named MVP of his group for August 7th. We’re
really proud of him!
Art with a Heart Foundation volunteers helped our moms and
kids create garden rocks.
Moms and kids are looking forward to their next visit. Thanks to grants from the
Rotary Club and the Aber D. Unger Foundation, this will occur more often.
Our families went on lots of trips thanks to the Title One Homeless Education
Office and its Shelter Recreation Program.
We saw an Aberdeen Ironbirds game, bowled, went swimming several times, and
visited Port Discovery. Miss Susan visited us twice a week to lead games and
arts and crafts activities.
INNterim had it’s own part-time Recreation Leader, Mary Doheny.
Mary worked with our children two days a week and supervised our wonderful
volunteers from McDonogh School and Ruxton Country Country Day School. The
kids really enjoyed Miss Mary and were sorry when her time at INNterim ended.
Sandy Johnson & her volunteers from the Eternal Light of Helping Hands Foundation
brought delicious food, games and many useful items for our families. We are
grateful to Sandy for all she and her volunteers do for our residents.
The Rotary Club of Pikesville/Owings Mills also held their annual INNterim Cookout.
President Albert Hess and the members of the club have been strong supporters of
INNterim since we first opened. Their latest project is a Children’s Learning
Center at INNterim Apartments. Thanks folks, we appreciate everything you’ve done
and continue to do for our families.
Meet INNterim’s new Program Director
INNterim welcomed Zelda Childs, M.S. to the INNterim staff in August. Zelda brings
many years of experience working with women and their families. Mrs. Childs plans
to strengthen current programs as well as implement new services that will assist
women in achieving self-sufficiency. We’re glad Zelda is here!
