INNterim Apartments Fill Up Both buildings at INNterim Apartments in Owings Mills are filled with residents. Eighteen families (18 women and 34) children have the chance to rebuild their lives and gain the skills and resources needed to move to permanent housing and maintain an independent life-style. INNterim Board Hosts Breakfast for Community to Meet New Executive Director State Senator Paul Hollinger, and others from the greater Baltimore community attended a breakfast at INNterim House on June 11th and met Patricia J. Lanning, LCSW-C, new Executive Director of INNterim Housing Corporation. Lanning is enthused at the possibilities women have at INNterim and will continue to develop programs that aid homeless women in reaching self-sufficiency. Before coming to INNterim, Lanning was the Director of the Carroll County program of the Family and Children’s Services of Central Maryland.

Sacred Heart School 8th Graders Choose INNterim for their Service Project. INNterim is honored to be designated as the first Service Project for graduating 8th graders at Sacred Heart School in Glyndon, Maryland. Thanks to Board member Sandra Pagnotti for organizing the event, and to the faculty, students and families of Sacred Heart for supporting it.

The eighth grade students prepared birthday bags for a whole year for INNterim children. Resident Tracey Toon visited the school with INNterim Volunteer Coordinator, Sharon Peterson on Friday, May 9th. Tracey told what its like to be homeless in our society. The students listened attentively and asked questions. After the assembly, students asked how they could volunteer at INNterim, and decided to give mothers a night out and baby sit for them.

Art with a Heart Donates Reading Chairs to INNterim House Randy Pupkin, Executive Director of Art with a Heart accompanied women from a senior center that worked with a teenaged volunteer, and decorated children’s rocking chairs with decoupage. These chairs were donated to the children with the proviso that they sit in the chairs and read a book each day. The children were delighted, and wait excitedly for their turn to use a chair. Art with a Heart worked with residents at both INNterim House and INNterim Apartments for eight weeks during the winter. It was an enjoyable experience for all concerned and INNterim residents hope they will return.

Rotary Club of Pikesville/Owings Mills Wins Grant for INNterim Rotary International awarded the club of Pikesville/Owings Mills a grant to equip a Child Development Room (CDR) at INNterim Apartments. The grant will pay for furniture, books, games, arts and crafts materials and school supplies. Rotary Volunteers will staff the room two nights a week to help children improve their pre-reading, reading, language and social skills. Club President, Albert Hess, reports that plans are well underway for opening the CDR.
