September 2002
Angel is moving into her own apartment in Columbia this month after a year at INNterim.
When she came, she had lost her job and didn’t have any place to live. Angel worked hard,
taking all courses that INNterim offered, and working part-time until she could find a full
time job and save money to move into her own place. We’re proud of all she’s accomplished.
Angel has what it takes to make it on her own.
Thanks to Carl Love of the Baltimore County Homeless Education Office and INNterim
Board member Lauren Siegel and her daughter Maggie Siegel-Berele for making sure that
they returned well equipped. The Homeless Education Office provided backpacks and
Lauren and Maggie purchased school supplies for our children.
Renovations are almost complete at 10203 Jensen Lane, the daycare center is equipped,
and our first residents will move in later this month. All the planning and hard work
by INNterim and the Baltimore County Office of Community Conservation is coming to
fruition, and soon there will be transitional housing spaces to serve 90 more homeless
individuals in the county. We’re excited!
Work is proceeding well, and should be finished by the end of the month. Safety issues
have been addressed:
- deteriorated sidewalks have been replaced,
- there is better lighting in stairwells and throughout the house, and
- new doors and locks where needed.
There will be a fresh coat of paint throughout the building. When all is finished, staff and residents are looking forward to working and living in a bright cheerful space.
Andrew Lean and Joey Ellis of Pikesville High School have signed on to volunteer with
INNterim’s children. They will help our students do homework and assist them in using
the computers in our children’s computer lab.
Those on our mailing list will receive postcards or letters asking them to help the
homeless women of Baltimore County make changes in their lives and overcome the
obstacles to self-sufficiency. If you’re not on our mailing list, but would like to
contribute, you can do so by clicking on the button for “How to Donate” and follow the
instructions. Thanks to all the friends of INNterim who have so generously supported
us since we first opened our doors to the homeless women and children of Baltimore
County in August 1994.
The staff, Board of Directors and residents of INNterim express our deepest sympathy
to all who lost family members in the terrorist attacks. We are grateful to those
fire and police emergency workers who gave their lives to save others. None of us will
ever forget their heroism.
